Louise Dodds Quartet
Entry Requirements: 18+
Scottish jazz vocalist Louise Dodds will be making her debut at The Blue Arrow this April with an incredible band featuring Peter Johnstone on piano, Andrew Robb on double bass and Stephen Henderson on drums. The quartet will be performing Louise’s trademark blend of fresh arrangements of jazz standards, bebop classics and self penned vocaleses to solos by some of her favourite musicians such as Hank Mobley and Dexter Gordon.
A regular performer on the jazz scene in Scotland and London, Louise has performed at many of the UK’s top jazz festivals and venues, including a headline slot at the London Jazz Festival at Pizza Express in 2013. This followed on from the release of her album ‘Fly' a mix of Louise’s arrangements of jazz standards, self-penned vocaleses and her own original compositions, which was featured on several BBC Radio jazz shows. She was honoured to be able to record with the incredible John Pearce, Dave Green, Steve Brown and Martin Shaw, and the success of the album allowed her to subsequently book an eight date UK tour. In 2014, Louise became one of only a handful of UK jazz artists to be awarded touring support from Jazz Services UK and the Arts Council England in 2014 for the tour, her tribute to the late great Horace Silver, ‘A Song for Horace’.
“Louise exudes the confidence of a vocalist who has put in the hard work...who loves her craft… who has carefully studied those who have gone before and has picked out elements of their jazz language and sculpted it into something that is very much her own. Her charm ensures a delivery that is sincere, and allows her musicality to reinforce her performance which is at all times genuine, demonstrating depth and warmth in spadefuls” Linley Hamilton, BBC Radio Ulster
